The 1969 Torino received few cosmetic changes, but there were quite a few performance oriented changes.
The grille was revised slightly with a more prominent center dividing bar, and that taillights were more square in shape than the 1968.
A new model was introduced, the Cobra 2-door sportsroof, and 2-door hardtop. Most modern literature refer to this car as “Torino Cobra”, but in early Ford literature it’s only referred to as “Cobra.”
All Torino models came standard with a larger 250ci I-6 engines, except the GTs and Cobras. The 428 CJ was still available with or without Ram Air.
The 428 CJ was no longer top performance choice. It was bumped down by the new Super Cobra Jet, and was designed specifically for drag racing, and the option was refereed to as “Drag Pack.”
The Cobra came standard with a 428ci 1×4bbl CJ, competition suspension, 4-speed manual, and F70-14 tires. It was Ford’s response to the successful Plymouth Road Runner, thus it had less trim level than the Fairlane 500 to keep costs down.
The Torino GT remained largely unchanged continuing to come standard with a 302-1×2bbl engine. All ‘69 GTs came equipped with a non-functional fiberlass hood scoop. The scoop became functional if the 428-1×4bbl with Ram Air induction was specified. Since the GT could option in all of the Cobra’s performance, it offered the higher level Torino trim.
Production dropped with a total of only 129,054 being produced.
