First introduced in 1955, the two seat Thunderbird was Ford’s response to the recently revealed Chevrolet Corvette. Dubbed as a “personal luxury car” it was designed to evoke the emotions of bespoke 1930s roadsters as well as provide modern technology and sophistication. The small size and standard V8 engine meant that the performance was strong but the focus was still more on drive comfort than outright speed. In 1957, the car underwent some small changes including larger fins, different badge placement and reworked trim. The ‘57 Thunderbird was also the last 2-seat Ford sports car until the 11th generation Thunderbird. Just 53k first generation Thunderbirds were made.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this gorgeous Thunderbird for your consideration. The bright red paint is excellent and shines well along with the quality chrome trim. The glass and other trim pieces are also in great shape and the car comes with a factory removable hard top. The car is well equipped and features the factory spare tire, 14in wire wheels with BFGoodrich whitewall tires, fenders skirts, AM radio and more. The interior is in excellent shape with a crack free dash and engine turned trim that looks great. The seats are stain and rip free and have great padding. Everything appear to be work as it should
The car runs and drives well with solid brakes, good steering and a strong engine. The ID build plate in the engine bay says that the engine is a “D” code which says the engine is the more powerful 312cid V8. The engine starts well and sounds strong. It is equipped with an Holley 2bbl carburetor. This car is in great shape and has been well cared for in the last 30 years it has spent with the same family. With just 21,380 1957 Thunderbirds produced, these excellent cars are becoming more scarce every year. Now is your chance to pick up a legend.
