Bright Red follows in the great tradition of hot Mustangs in bold colors. This factory-correct hue looks great today thanks to an investment in a professional respray. There’s no better way to showcase a Mach 1 than with the NACA ram air hood on a blacked-out treatment that matches the side hockey stick stripes and rear spoiler. The whole package looks great on a body as straight and clean as this one. Given the choice, we think this was the right decision to keep the front bumper body colored but leave the rear in chrome where it matches the gas cap and dual exhaust tips. Of course, this is not the only obvious shine on the pony car, because everyone takes notice when a Mustang is on a nice set of classic Magnum 500 wheels with pony center caps.
The restoration of the interior was done the factory-correct black vinyl. This stellar appearance really highlights Ford’s desire to add a luxury image to the Mach 1 package. And so this one retains its high-back bucket seats as well as the wood veneering on the door panels and dashboard. And as you look over the window sticker, you’re going to notice that all of the great factory options are still in place, like the center console, AM/FM stereo, and fold-down rear seat. The only exception to this time capsule is that the factory air conditioning is now running modern R134a for easier servicing.
Under the hood is exactly what you want to see, a 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8. And this M-code Mustang shows off its correct-code motor with great originality, right down to the bold blue valve covers and factory decals. You can see from the level of care and maintenance that this is a cherished Mach 1. That means you’re going to love firing this one up, and hearing the rumble of the H-pipe dual exhaust. Out on the road, the four-barrel carburetor lets this V8 makes some serious power. And you can go cruising near or far thanks to great features like the three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes.
