The 1966 Dodge Charger marked its memorable inception. Based on the midsize Coronet, the Charger included hidden headlamps, full-length tail lamps, and an interior that was state-of-the-art with four bucket seats and optional front and rear consoles. It could be had with a 426 HEMI, although standard was the 318. Most buyers optioned for the upgraded 361 or 383, still packing plenty of power. The Charger met instant success and sold 37,344 units, of which 468 were optioned with the HEMI.
